Loads Not applied at center of Frame

Hi,

I am new to Ram Frame and was wondering if you could lend a hand?

I have a building with rigid diaphragms on all floors with 3 cores (L shaped Building)

When  I display frame loads for all 3 frames it shows large loads at the center of the diaphragm on the second floor but really small loads at 2 frames and none at the other.

I was wondering is this something to do with the diaphragm not transferring loads correctly to the frame or a modeling issue. FYI the model runs without any warnings.

I appreciate any help on this matter.

Support reactions in P-delta analysis

How to display support reactions affected with P-delta effects. After runing P-delta analysis it seems that only 1st order support reactions are available.

RAM Concept SOG Design

I am designing a simple SOG to support a large full tank.  When I only use user reinforcement, it fails around the edge of the slab for 8.5.2 & 8.3.3.1.  See below.

When I allow the computer to design it adds a few additional anchor reinforcement and passes. Based on my validation check the original slab design should work yet does not. Why is the original slab failing were the new slab is not? Is there a way to have the program not add anchor reinforcement?

Can someone help me interpret the output deflections results in staad?

Deff = 360

Df1 = 3

Df2 = 4

Spam = 5.0 m

allow = 5/360 = 0.013888 output staad = 0.182????

Actual deflection L/C1 10.308mm or 0.01038m output staad = 0.13358 m???

Response modification factor, over strength factor and deflection amplification factor

Yes, You can manually enter a combination with some extra factor like Cd to get amplified values, but I honestly find it faster to just factor the deflection results manually or factor the limit instead. 

I have some confusion and request clarification  regarding use of Response modification factor (R) , Overstrength factor(Ω₀) and Deflection amplification factor (Cd)

In Staad GUI input for seismic load definition I get the opportunity to give Response modification factor Rx and Rz .

While preparing load combination for Strength design I get the opportunity to use over strength factor (Ω₀) as shown below 

Next about Cd two questions?

I suppose this deflection amplification factor(Cd) is to be used in in conjunction with Serviceability design? Is this required required to be considered for strength design as well?

How to use this Cd as in the seismic definition input as there was no scope to input.

Dear admin,

I am in the process of running analysis, and after the start of the running the analysis stops and displays a windows box headed 'Visual Fortran run-time error' with the following message:

forrtl: severe (24): end-of-file during read, unit 13, file C:\Users\PC\AppData\Local\Temp\FORF34E.tmp
...........


The message only appears when I applied the time history in the load and definitions for analysis. Does anyone have an idea of how to deal with this problem?

Change beam direction RAM Structural System

Is there a way to change beam direction without deleting and remodeling, i.e. switch the i and j ends?  I have beam lines that are numbered from south to north (94-104-113-122-131), however they have been scheduled elsewhere north to south (131-122-113-104-94).  Can I change the line direction in RAM Concrete?  If not, can we make this a feature request?

RAM Concept - Span Detailing / Strength Added reinofrcing

Hello,

I am working with a RAM Concept model where the strength design without span detailing does not require added reinforcing compared to the user defined amount. The strength design with span detailing however is indicating that significant added reinforcing is required. I have done a hand calculation and the slab should have adequate capacity for the moment being placed on it. I have also checked that the bars are fully developed and this does not appear to be an issue of user bars not being extended far enough into the span.

Rather than ignoring the Concept added bars I would like to understand the reasoning behind them. Do you have any thoughts on what is going on?

Gravity point loads in RAM SS

In the old RAM SS PRODUCT, plan point loads for RAM Steel had to be placed on a beam or column below. Can point loads be placed between beams and automatically distributed reactions to the beam(by a one-way slab analogy) or will this still create an unsupported load error? 

RAM Frame - Nodal Displacements

I am running an 8-story steel frame in RAM Frame.  When I run just the drift load cases, the nodal displacement at the roof of Frame 1 for LdC W18 is 1.25" for the Y-direction.  If I run all of the load cases and output the exact same report, the nodal displacement for LdC W18 is 2.65" for the same direction.  Can anyone explain the disparity?  I'm simply trying to extract the frame displacements so I can get a solid feel of the drifts in all of my frames, but I don't have a lot of confidence that I'm not missing something.  Any thoughts?

RAM Structural Column Design / Foundation Load Reports

Is there a report which would give me the column size, grid label, and foundation loads?

The foundation loads report is correlated with column number, and the column design/size report is correlated with grid/location. This makes it really difficult to design footings and base plates which I like to do outside of RAM.

Cross Bracing Analysis

Hello,

I have an ordinary frame which has some cross bracings in it. The unit is actually to support small HVAC equipment. I have created a basic model to see if my angles will be able to take that load or not. However, I am designing cross bracings in staad for the first time and instead of designing them as tension only members, I went with releasing My, Mz approach as I want to design them for compression too. Can someone please look at the code and tell me if anything is wrong in it. I am not sure I am getting such less unity ratios. I was expecting less but not to this extent.

Also, the reason to use cross bracings in this frame is to reduce the effective length of angles in both local y and z-direction. Can I just use single diagonal brace with My and Mz releases at the start and end to effectively use the angle capacities and have effective length more then recommended in codes in one direction only?
