I'm working on mat slab supported only on piles using staad foundation advanced v 8.00.00.00. I'm new to the program so i'm currently working through the nuances of the program (such as the need to remesh when you change a load) and how to get understandable output. However, i'm having a rather difficult time with saving and it keeping several inputs including grid spacing and removed items from the model (such as column foundations that were previously removed. Is there a reason why the grid doesn't save and that foundations that were previously removed continue to come back?

SQL Query in STAAD.Pro CONNECT
I'm test driving the new STAAD.Pro CONNECT edition. I went to the SQL Query and picked "Simple Query". It said "This feature is not available in this release." I tried advanced query and it said the same thing. Funny, good joke, but seriously, how do you get it to do a SQL Query?
Import STAAD CIS/2 into Smartplant3D
Has anyone had any luck importing Staad into SP3D? If so, please advise. I seem to have tried all the settings and the log file says no members are imported, and when I hit "submit job" my S3D locks up. I let it spin for an hour, twice, and nothing happens, so I have to force close. Please help.... Thanks in advance.
What is STAAD.Pro Advanced?
I'm continuing to play with the new STAAD.Pro CONNECT Edition. When I fire it up it presents me with a dialog box that let's me choose either STAAD.Pro or STAAD.Pro Advanced.
We have licenses for STAAD.Pro and STAAD Advanced Analysis Plus but the license management tool is saying that STAAD.Pro Advanced is a trial that expires in 7 days. I read the blurb on the Bentley web site about STAAD.Pro Advanced and it sounds pretty much like STAAD.Pro to me, so I don't get it. What's going on?
If it really is just a trial, of course I would open it late on Friday before a long weekend.
Is there a matrix somewhere comparing STAAD.Pro to STAAD.Pro Advanced?
Colors of beam,plate in staad
Dear sir,
I am using currently staad.pro connect edition version(21.00.00.57), already i used staad select series 6 in that we had some default colors of beam, plate, node, analysis results etc., but in connect edition all are in black colour. How to modify easily. Whether i have to copy any file from old version or i have change everything manually in staad itself. Pls clarify
How can I include all the properties corresponding to a model in one image?
In the above picture it isn't very clear what property corresponds to which part of the structure.
Now, if I would select one it shows it alright like below but just one property:
Here I'm using the snipping tool and I would have to do it for each property a different pictures. Is there any easier way to display all these properties in one image in the report perhaps? Thanks.
Moving Load Help in Staad Pro.
Hi,
Could you please tell me is it possible to define the moving load that is attached to bottom surface of the slab, not applying to the top surface?
Please see attached sketch below

Surfaces Vs. Plates
Hello,
I am modeling a cylindrical silo structure and I would like to incorporate a flat plate as the roof. This silo was created using the structure wizard using a frame model type (reverse cylinder) with a length of approximately 35' by 24' radius with 10 bays along the length and 14 bays peripherally. I plated in the bays with quad plates, however I cannot accurately plate the top roof with a solid plate (using the plate options available).
To model the flat plate I modeled a surface. Is this the correct way of modeling a flat plate on top pf my model? I also added a parametric mesh to the surface, is this correct? I will also be meshing my sidewall plates and I would like the mesh to be uniform for the entire model.
Please direct me in the correct way to model this structure. I would have attached model as a reference but I am receiving an error when trying to upload.
Thank you in advance,
Erika Reed
Moving Load in X and Z axis Direction
Hi,
Can you please tell me how do we define and generate moving loads at one time in both X and Z axis direction?
Please see attached sketch below.

BASE SHEAR VALUE
Dear Bently Support,
i am designing a pedestrian bridge, in which i applied static seismic load case and dynamic response spectrum load case (UBC 1997)
I want to compare the values of base shear calculated by staad
how can i get the values for both load cases base shear?
thank you
Overlapping Plates and Improper Connectivity
Hi,
Can you please tell me,
1) what does overlapping plates mean, why do we get them and what do we do when we have overlapping plates/do we delete them?
2) Why is improper plate connectivity occurs and how do we solve it?
I am not understanding why I have overlapping and improperly connected plates.
Please see attached screenshots.
Thank you

In regards to the Bolted Moment End Plate Type A arrangement. There is an option to input a column flange doubler in the end plate menu. Check 22A then provides you with a Column (flange+doubler) strength. There is no reference for this calculation. Is there a reference for further information on this calculation and the use of column flange doublers?
OpenSTAAD (GetGroupEntities) VB.Net
Hi,
I am trying to extract and store the plate elements list (grouped under a name e.g., 'test group') to list and then trying to extract the plate element incidences using following methods from OSGeometryUI Object using VB.Net.
a. GetGroupEntities(GroupName,ArrayVariableName ) for extracting and storing the list of plate elements.
b. GetPlateIncidence(ElementNo,NodeAVariable,NodeBVariable,NodeCVariable,NodeDVariable) for Storing the element incidences.
The problem is, these methods are working perfectly in VBA (including the intellisense). However 'GetGroupEntities' is not fetching any elements at all nor the intellisense is working for these methods in VB.Net. Am I missing something which I need to include/import.
Below are the snapshots of the Assembly references I have included in my project and the code used for extracting the above mentioned information. Can someone help me in resolving this issue.?
Thanks in advance
Newer file version
I'm using RAM SS v15.00, but I've received a RAM SS file from a colleague who has a later version of RAM SS. When I tried to open it, I received a dialog box that said "This software version cannot open databases with version numbers greater than 15.00." Is there any way for to open RAM SS files from a latter version?

RAM Elements Tank/Mat Foundation Soil Pressures
I have a cooling tower support and integral sump tank I'm designing in RAM Elements.
I have meshed the walls at 1 foot horizontal increments so that I can do a triangular load distribution (for external soil, and internal water pressure).
I have meshed the bottom slab of the tank on a 1 foot grid to place a spring at each node based on a 1 foot trib of the subgrade modulus (i.e. 115 pci * 12in*12in = 16.6 k/in in the middle, less on the edges and corners).
How should I best get soil pressures from this model? It appears that the intermediate nodes in the finite element model are also picking up load, so that the reaction at each corner is not the true soil pressure.
Thanks.
I've also uploaded my model to the secure upload site as Cooling_Tower_and_Sump_tdl.etz
Multiplying all Nodes by 12 To Account for Mistake in Units
Hello,
I have modeled my structure in the wrong units, I modeled in inches as compared to feet. I have a total of 300 nodes thus far and I need to multiply all the X,Y,Z dimensions by 12 in order to represent the correct geometry.
What is the quickest and easiest way to do this? I do not have a parametric mesh modeled yet, only structural members and those will move with the node dimensions. Please be advised that I tried to copy and paste the new node values from excel over into the node geometry table and nothing happens. The table will only populate if I change the nodes one by one, copy and paste will not populate the table.
Please advise, and thank you in advance.

Local Web Yielding and Web Crippling
Section 3.3.3 of RAM Frame's Steel Standard Provision Technical Notes states the following regarding Local Web Yielding and Web Crippling: "To calculate the column capacity at these locations RAM Frame uses the maximum of the framing beams flange thickness or the columns k dimension (distance from outside face of column flange to the web toe of the web-to-flange fillet) in equations LRFD 3rd: K1-2, K1-3 and AISC 360: J10-2, J10-3." What is the AISC 360 Specification basis for RAM SS use of the MAXIMUM of the beam's flange or the column's K dimension?
