I have a round HHS column sitting on a cantilevered W section. The W section is cantilevered off of a concrete column. The building is mostly steel framing with one masonry core and steel braced frames as the lateral system. I need to run the concrete Analysis to obtain the column load for my one concrete column, but when I run the analysis I get an error for the steel column above saying that it has an instability with respect to the Z degree of freedom. I've attempted to change the fixity of the column although it is already a fixed-fixed condition for the level this is associated with. Is my model not recognizing that the beam is underneath the column, and therefore not meshing those components into one node? For instance does it think the steel column is unsupported??
