I have come across the attached PDF after looking for some information on this topic.
In the PDF, solid elements are used to model the foundation and it states the top and bottom plates should be modeled as plate elements (section 4.0). Are the plate elements used to just get the moments that are induced by the loads? Does the thickness of the plate elements effect the results and if so what kind of thickness shoud be used?
How are moments transferred to the plate elements when solid elements do not transfer moments?
These are pretty specific questions; I'm really just looking for input.
