I have shown two pictures below of a simple problem , using two different mesh patterns.

In the First case the meshing is uniform and in the second case the meshing is finer at center and coarser at the periphery.

The meshing pattern for the second case is shown above. My Queries are as follows:
1.Is the second case acceptable for analyzing the structure, means can we go with finer mesh at some locations and coarser mesh at other locations?
2.What do we mean by Overlapping Plates? As shown in fig 3, plate 3 and 18 , 3 nd 19 and so on are overlapping plates.
3. Even though the STAAD is analyzing the 2nd case, are the results accurate ?
