I have been using RAM SS and RAM Concrete to design some podium slab structures, and we have been getting a common correction comment from the building department regarding the checks described in ACI 318-11 section 21.13. The section specifies design requirements for elements not designated as seismic resisting portions of the structure (i.e. "gravity" columns/walls as modeled in RAM SS). Section 21.13.2 specifies that the effects of moments and shears induced in gravity only members due to the design displacements of the structure can be checked and compared with maximum values that then dictate certain reinforcement detailing. Does RAM Concrete include this check within its design capabilities? If so, is there a way to determine these moments and shears in the elements to confirm the design in our calculations?
