When I get the steel design check for a beam (W10x49 e.g.) the report says AZZ = 7.466 and AYY = 3.393. The geometry of the W10x49 is d = 10.0", tw = 0.340", bf = 10.0" and tf = 0.560". AYY corresponds to the major axis shear area, defined as Aw = d * tw = 10.0(0.340) = 3.40 in AISC EQN G2-1. This much appears correct in STAAD. However, AZZ corresponds to the minor axis shear area, defined as Aw = bf * tf = 10.0(0.560) = 5.60 in AISC Section G7. STAAD reports this value as 7.466, a significant error. Please help me resolve this issue.
My version of STAAD is: STAAD.Pro V8i SELECTseries5
Version 20.07.10.41
