Hi,
I want to design a mono-symmetrical I beam, with the section being an I section, but with the bottom flange wider than the top flange. I am using AISC-360-10.
I noticed that when I define the section as a "WIDE FLANGE" section using the USER TABLE option, all bending checks are done to Section F2, which is incorrect, as this applies to doubly symmetric sections, even though I defined the bottom flange as being wider than the top flange.
However, when I change the section to ISECTION, using the USER TABLE option, the bending checks are done to Section F4, which appear to be correct, as the section is mono-symmetric. I modelled the bottom flange as being wide than the top flange.
Can you please confirm whether:
1. STAAD.Pro checks mono-symmetric I beams?
2. Defining the section as an ISECTION is the proper modelling method, in order for STAAD to perform the design checks for mono-symmetric I sections, to Clause F4 and F5 of AISC-360-10?
3. What is the difference between an ISECTION and a WIDE FLANGE beam in STAAD.PRO?
Thanks
