Dear Members,
I read several posts on reference load and even Tech Notes http://communities.bentley.com/products/structural/structural_analysis___design/w/structural_analysis_and_design__wiki/4014
But still have some doubts. I am writing here some of the conclusions and doubts also and want comments and suggestions from all.
1. If I select the type 'Mass' while generation Reference load and give load in absolute in all the three directions, namely
GX, GY, GZ, then it serve the following purposes:
Conclusions:
- Will be used with Floor Diaphragm to calculate Center of Mass of each storey.
- No need to define loads in Spectrum definitions as seismic weights will be calculated by itself from 'Mass' Reference Load in all three directions.
Doubts:
- Seismic weight for static seismic analysis won't be calculated by itself and have to be separately defined?
- If I define a reference load with Type 'Dead' or any other type except 'Mass'. Will it be included in any calculation unless otherwise specified?
- What happens when in type 'Mass' only Y direction is included. That means where STAAD will use it by itself.
- What happens when Three 'Mass' reference load definition is defined, each for X, Y and Z. Will it function similar as defining Mass in all three directions in just one definition.
Thanks in advance.
