Hi Seth, Karl,
I'd like to know more about the meshing algorithm RAM Concept employs.
I understand the benefits of refining the mesh from tri/quad elements into more regular quad elements using design strips. But I'd like to know the relationship between the mesh element size and the final generated mesh size, when using design strips.
As a test, I modelled a 50m x 14.5m slab with a 1m mesh size. The generated mesh was had 0.5m heights and 0.66m lengths. The same slab was then modelled with 2m mesh size. The generated mesh had 1m heights and 1.32m lengths.
Do the spacing of the design sections affect the mesh? What is the algorithm the software uses to determine the heights and lengths of the mesh sizes? Seems like the heights are simply the mesh size divided by 2. I also notice it certainly could have divided the lengths further to get a more 'square' quad element but for some reason it doesn't. Why?
Thanks
