I'm trying to model a truss bridge. Several of the members are built-up box sections with plates that have large, evenly spaced openings (see attached image). It doesn't seem possible to add these openings using the Section Wizard, but when I run the analysis ignoring the openings the calculated tension and compression capacity comes out way too high. In reality, the openings cut the cross-section area roughly in half so it's not a minor thing that can be ignored. Does anyone know if it's possible to model the beams in STAAD to account for the openings?
