How to divide the plate into 2 at the line of interest with the beam?

I have draw a beam in between one plate, now how I'll be able to divide this plate into 2 where the beam intersects the plate? Or is there anyway that I could divide the plate from its midpoint in the vertical direction automatically rather than specifying the distances and retaining the original properties of the plate, loads applied to it etc? Thanks.
