Hi.
I have modeled a RC building of G+1 storey (2.5m+ 5.3m). Overall height of building is 8.5m. The building is to be designed as per South African code SABS10100.
The columns sizes have been provided as 400mm square / 450mm square. During design, i am getting errors stating the "% Reinforcement columns exceeds maximum limit of longitudinal reinforcement".
If the same file is analysed for with column size of 400mm square as per Indian code (IS-456) / European code (EC2), the % of Longitudinal reinforcement does not exceed 1.5~2.0%. Further, it can be noted none of the columns having any uplift forces.
When the size is revised to 400mm X 500mm with SABS code, the design runs successfully. However, the % reinforcement for most of the columns failed in the previous case does not exceed 0.2% ( as per SABS code, Min longitudinal reinf % is 0.4%). The track -2 output results indicate columns are under tension ( negative axial loads).
However, with the same column sizes in case of IS-456 / EC-2 codes, design results indicates compressive axial loads with reinforcement % upto 1.2% ( min 0.4% is maintained for all columns).
Request to clarify why is there such a variation in results.
