Various Staad Usage Questions

I'm fairly new to Staad as a program, and I'm struggling a bit with how to do certain things within the confines of the program. If anyone can help with any of these I'd appreciate it.

  1. Is there any way to specify member releases in global coordinates? i.e. If I have two long angles that cross in an "X" pattern with a single bolt holding them together at the centre, that's not a joint that can meaningfully transmit all forces and moments. But in order to get the angle cross sections to line up properly, their local coordinates don't line up with the global coordinates. So I'd like it to be free to rotate about the single bolt, but not in the perpendicular direction, but I don't see how I can do this using local coordinates only. I could ignore the connection between the two, but then my unbraced length drops significantly.
  2. Again with the "X" crossing angles, is there anyway to have both those members be full length members that are braced and share load in the centre but not all loads? If I release any loads for the angles at the centre, it won't transmit the moment along its entire length which is not right, but I don't want some of those forces to do into the other angle.
  3. I tried creating physical members to account for members that are longer than the beam would suggest because of intermediate bracing. They're listed in the input file as "pmembers". But when I do the CHECK CODE to the Canadian code, it still seems to be using the shorter length, not the full length, and different parts of the same physical member have different utilization ratios where I would have expected one physical member to have only one utilization ratio.
  4. Is there any way to get beam end loads in global coordinates instead of local coordinates? This is sometimes quite handy, especially when your local coordinates are at bizarre angles to the global.
  5. Is there no way to get the program to do a code check on solid rectangular sections, or solid circular? Why can't I define all the necessary properties for a section and then have it perform the code check?
