I'd like to perform a P-delta analysis of a long single column with a fixed base to see if the top of the column experiences any lateral displacement as a result of an applied axial load.
Will STADD do this for a sinle column without any external horizontal loads? does my column need to part of a frame system. The column is modeled as beam elements and the axial load is set to be a repeating load, however when i run the analysis, with 30 iterations, I only get displacements in the Y direction. I would expect at some point the column start to buckle under the axial load. I even applied an axial load that far exceeds the column capacity.
