California Building Code requires that foundation reinforcement must be designed using overstrength load combinations (section 1616.10.14). When I include the overstrength combinations in the "Custom Concrete Load Combinations" dialog, the footing sizes at lateral elements are increased dramatically. My best guess is that this is to account for what the program perceives as additional overturning. This results in unnecessarily large footings. Is there a way to allow RAM Foundation to ONLY design the reinforcement (and not footing size or soil pressure) for overstrength?
