I would like to confirm the proper use of the Notional Load command and the results they will produce. In our situation, we are trying to test if the use of the Notional Load command within a load case and if it will yield the same results as applying each load individually. Our reference load case includes vertical pipe loads and we are trying to use the notional load command to apply the corresponding orthogonal friction loads. Will this method adequately design our beams supporting these pipes? Should Notional Load command be reserved for the use of Load Combinations with the Direct Analysis Method to model initial imperfections only?
