Dear Staad Team,
We are using software STAAD Pro V8i for analysis of Hot Oil Heater Structure using 2 UPN400 (back to back with zero gap) as shown in enclosed sketch.
We understand that, for built up sections, STAAD assumes such built up sections behave as one section. For further clarity, we want to know whether channel section UPN400 need to be joined together or not.
Enclosed sketch shows three sections as OPTION – 1, OPTION – 2 and OPTION – 3.
Can you please advise which is the right way to join these channels to realize this assumption in actual execution?
Option 1:
Channels are placed back to back without any connection between two channels.
Option 2:
Channels are placed back to back connected together with bolts for web only.
Option 3:
Channel are connected at flanges and at web, both sides.
Channels are placed back to back connected together with bolts for web and flanges are joined together using batten plate and bolts.
Would you please reply to the above as early as possible.
